Five of the Best Football Betting Sites in Detail

Let’s now take a closer look at our top five best betting sites for football – what makes them tick, what they can offer you, and what earns them a place on our football betting websites fab five.

1. Bet365 – Tops Our Best Football Betting Site UK List

Bet365 really does have it all when it comes to football betting, including the site’s policy of paying out all football bets once the side you have backed takes a two-goal lead, no matter the final outcome of the game. It has more football betting markets than most, some live streaming (but not of top-tier games such as the EPL and the UCL), a continual array of inventive betting offers, and a fast-working site that is an absolute breeze to use on both desktops and mobile devices. You are also able to download the bet365 app.

bet365 football

Bet365 has been around since 2000, founded by the Coates family in a Stoke-on-Trent portacabin. It is now one of the UK’s most successful betting brands, bringing in global revenues of $3.4billion in the 12 months to March 2023. Despite that, the site insists on calling football ‘soccer’ (we refuse to call this page ‘The best soccer betting sites’). It has all the matches from all levels of soc … er, football from all football-playing corners of the globe. It can also boast competitive odds, free-to-enter games such as ‘Goals Giveaway’ and much, much more.

Bet Here Because:

  • Pays out early if your backed side goes two goals up
  • ‘Goals Giveaway’ – win up to £50 in bet credits for free
  • Some live streaming, although not of elite-tier matches

But Bear in Mind:

  • Insists on calling football ‘soccer’

2. BetMGM – Free Golden Goals Game – Win up to £2m!

You might want to sign up for BetMGM because of their free-to-enter Golden Goals game alone! Not many sites give you the chance of winning £2m for no entry fee. You have to be a real footie expert to nab the top prize as you have to get six selected football scores exactly correct, which, as far as we know, no one has ever done. There are consolation prizes though – the entrants who get the most results right get to share the main prize pool. Of course, BetMGM offers a full football betting menu too, else it would not be on this list!

betmgm football

BetMGM is an American company, but don’t think they get the US version of football mixed up with the proper version, as the UK side of BetMGM is run by LeoVegas. It offers a complete range of football betting markets in an ‘easy on the eye’ format that looks good no matter the device you are using to view. You can filter out games that are not currently live and just pick out the games available for live streaming, too. There’s true global coverage here as well, so it doesn’t really matter what you want to bet on, as you’ll find it at BetMGM.

Bet Here Because:

  • Win up to £2 million with ‘Golden Goals’
  • True global coverage of the world’s only truly global sport
  • Filters and search options make your bets easier to find

But Bear in Mind:

  • No one has ever won that top £2 million prize

3. Spreadex – Best Football Betting Site for Spread Betting

If you truly do consider yourself a football betting UK expert, then you ought to give football spread betting a go. Spread betting rewards you for your accuracy. For example, say you think a match will contain at least four goals. If you bet on this at a fixed odds site, you win the same no matter how many goals are scored over three. However, with spread betting, if the game contained seven goals, you’d be paid more than if it contained just four. The downside to spread betting is that you can lose more than your stake should your betting predictions turn out to be wildly inaccurate!

spreadex football

Spreadex are kings of football spread betting and all forms of spread betting. If you imagine anything in football that can be measured, then you can spread bet on it! Total goals, time of first goal, total goal times, handicaps … even the total of the players’ shirt numbers! Spreadex is really inventive when it comes to football spread betting markets. It is not that inventive when it comes to football bonuses and promotions, though, although you can get football acca boosts up to 75% and spread-free bets that allow you to bet at the mid-point of markets for that extra boost.

Bet Here Because:

  • The best site for spread betting
  • Site takes responsible gambling very seriously
  • An incredible number of inventive markets

But Bear in Mind:

  • Spread betting can be difficult to understand

4 – BetUK – Weekly Football Offer – £5 Free Bet Every Week

Plenty of UK betting sites will offer you a single welcome bonus then that’s it as far as bonuses go. BetUK is different as you can earn yourself a free £5 football bet each and every week! All you need to do to gain your weekly £5 freebie is to stake at least £10 on any Football Bet Builder market. There are T&Cs to attend to, so make sure you read them. Even if you don’t take up this offer, BetUK is a brilliant site for all your football bets. It has the full range of betting markets, all packaged up in a very neat site on desktops, laptops and mobile devices.

betuk football

BetUK has been around for much longer than you probably think it has – since 2003, in fact, although it didn’t really come to prominence in the UK market until a makeover in 2018. The site is run by iBet Global, who are a UK company, but they are owned by LeoVegas (yes, them again), who are not. The site gives you access to all the world’s top football leagues and at all levels, with plenty of inventive markets for every potential bet.

Bet Here Because:

  • Weekly £5 free football bet available
  • Full range of global competitions and markets
  • Provides you with tips to help you decide your bets

But Bear in Mind:

  • Free bet qualifier must be at minimum odds of 2,00

5 – Betfred – Up to 50% Bonus on Winning Football Accas

For many football fans, placing their weekly acca is their religion. It’s their way of doing the lottery, as it’s very hard to get a sequence of football results (or other market outcomes) correct, but the rewards for a small outlay could be massive. Betfred gives you that little bit extra when it comes to football accas, as you will get a bonus up to 50% for winning ones! Acca must have a minimum of five legs and the lowest winning boost is 2.5%. Any winning acca with twelve or more legs is boosted by that 50% bonus. You also get your stake back as a free bet should your acca fail by one selection, and other T&Cs apply.

betfred football

Betfred is brilliant for football betting, as you’d probably expect, given that this bookie has been around since 1967. They came online in the 2010s and are now one of the most popular online football betting sites available to punters in the UK. They always offer enhanced odds on both single-match outcomes and outrights. Betfred says they offer, on average, 100 different markets for each football match, and we have to say we believe them from what we’ve seen.

Bet Here Because:

  • Up to 50% bonus on winning football accas
  • #PickYourPunt – legendary boosted odds BetBuilder
  • Displays whether any match can be live-streamed, anywhere

But Bear in Mind:

  • Lack of actual live streaming on the site

Top Offers at Football Betting Sites

Here are the best football offers we have found at our chosen UK football betting sites. Although we always strive to be up to date, please check the site for the latest offers and any associated T&Cs.

Bet365 – Early Payout

Available on over 80 leagues and competitions throughout the world, including all English leagues, divisions and competitions, the Scottish Premiership, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and all UEFA European competitions from the group stage onwards. All football bets are settled as wins as soon as the side you have backed takes a two-goal lead at any stage of the game except during time added on for stoppages in play, no matter the final outcome.

BetMGM – Weekly Free Sports Bet

You can earn yourself a weekly £5 free bet at BetMGM. All you need to do is go to the ‘My Offers’ page at the site and opt in, then place a £10 bet on a football acca with at least four selections and minimum overall odds of 2.00, and another £10 on a football bet builder. No matter how your qualifying bets fair, you will receive a £5 free bet fresh in your inbox come Monday morning! There are no restrictions on how you use your free bet, but you must use it within seven days of receiving it.

QuinnBet – Daily Free Football Bet

There’s not much better than a weekly free bet unless it is a daily free bet! Each day QuinnBet will calculate the money you have wagered (max £10 per bet) on in-play bets, football accas (3+ selections including Yankees and Lucky 15s) and Create-a-Bets with 2+ selections. As long as the odds are better than 6/4 (2.50) then the bets qualify. QuinnBet will then give you back five per cent of that total as long as it exceeds £5 as a free bet up to £5! Free bets can be used on any event with odds between 1/4 (1.25) and 500/1, and they must be used within seven days.

Popular Football Betting Markets

There is much more to bet on when it comes to football than the winners of an individual match. Here we explore all the most popular football betting markets in the UK.

Tournament Winner Match Result Half-Time/Full-Time Draw No Bet Double Chance Correct Score First Goalscorer Both Teams to Score

The easiest one to understand – place an ‘outright’ bet on the winner of any particular tournament, be it the UEFA European Champions League, the English Premier League, or the Argentina Primera B Metropolitan Reserves League!

Bet on the outcome of any particular match i.e. choose the winner or if you think the game is going to end in a draw. Also known as ‘1X2’ from the days of the old football pools where 1 was a home win, 2 an away win and X a draw.

This bet splits each game in two. You can bet on the score line at half-time and on the result at full-time. You have to be right with both halves of your bet for your overall bet to win.

Football is one of the few global sports where a tie is an acceptable result. If you are averse to the draw, then consider the ‘draw no bet’ option as that eradicates the tie! You choose one side to win, and if the game ends all-square, your stake is returned to you.

With this bet, you can combine any two outcomes of a match into a single bet. The possible combinations are home/draw, away/draw and home/away. Your bet only loses if the outcome you haven’t backed is the final result.

If you are usually accurate with your football crystal ball, then betting on the correct score could be the bet for you. It’s a difficult bet to get right, though, so the odds will be high. Don’t forget that you are betting on the score (including which team wins unless you are backing a draw), not the correct scoreline.

Back the player who will score the first goal in a match. Note that for the purposes of this bet, own goals do not count in any way, shape or form. If the first goal scored is an own goal, then for this bet the score is still considered to be 0-0.

Bet on the total number of goals in a match on an over or under basis. The most popular total is 2.5, but other potential totals are available. The total contains a half-goal so that the over/under total does not return a push. Under 2.5 means 0, 1 or 2 goals will be scored. Over 2.5 miles means 3 or more. It’s the overall match total for both teams.

This is a bet on neither side in a game keeping a clean sheet (BTTS yes) or one or both sides keeping a clean sheet (BTTS No).

What We Expect from the Best Football Bookies

Creating reviews of the leading football betting sites in the UK allows us to take a detailed approach, taking a look at everything we think is most important when someone is looking to place bets easily on a football match. Our team of betting experts stick to strict guidelines (as outlined in How We Rank Gambling Sites) to create content that is transparent, honest and useful.

When it comes to football, we consider the number and quality of the markets available, the competitiveness of the odds, the ease of using the site, the availability of live betting (with cash out) and live streaming, the offers and promotions, payment methods, withdrawal times, and anything else we consider pertinent to the football betting UK experience.

We also look at the experience on mobile devices, the ease of making deposits, the measures available designed to encourage responsible gambling and the levels and usefulness of customer support.

Football Betting Offers

All betting sites in the UK will offer promotions, and many of them will be exclusive to football markets, or at least you can use them to bet on football. If you are unsure about the kind of football betting promotions you are likely to find, then you should find the information presented below to be useful.

Welcome Offers Early Payout Acca Boosts Acca Insurance Enhanced Odds

You’ll receive a welcome offer at any UK sports betting site that you join. It may be a free bet, a matched bonus (deposit £50 and receive £50 in bonus money), or some other kind of deal. Most welcome offers are not specific to football, but you may find a football-specific welcome offer at certain stages of the season, such as the start of the EPL season, or when the final of the UCL is due to be played.

There are a few sites that will payout early on your ‘1X2’ football bets. The rule is that as soon as the side you backed takes a two-goal lead, your bet is paid out as a winning bet, no matter the game’s final score. This means your backed team could lose 3-2 but your bet still wins if they’d been 2-0 in the lead. Note that early payout only applies to top-tier football competitions (check the site’s T&Cs to find out exactly which competitions are covered) and does not apply to two-goal leads established in extra time.

There are countless punters all over the UK who enjoy the weekly ‘cheeky little Premier League acca’. An acca (short for ‘accumulator’) is a string of single bets where the winnings from the first bet become the stake for the second bet, and so on down the chain. Accas can generate high payouts from small stakes, but ALL bets in the chain must win else your entire acca will end up paying nothing.

Many UK betting sites for football will offer an acca boost, which is an extra percentage payout for your winning accas. The more selections in your accas, the bigger the boost although conversely of course the more selections, the less likely your acca is to win.

There can be nothing more painful than having an acca bet (see above) fail by a single selection. Imagine getting seven predictions spot on and then flopping on the eighth.

Acca insurance will soften the blow of blowing a winning acca by a single selection … by a small degree. With acca insurance, should your acca fail by a single selection then you get back your original stake as a free bet. Free bets can only be used for betting and cannot be withdrawn. They are not returned as the stake for a winning bet.

You can get better odds than normal with an enhanced odds deal, or a price boost as they are also known. They could be specific to a specific game, or you might have the option to use a price boost on any game you choose. If you take the bet, then if the bet wins you are paid out via your boosted odds.

Please note that for some enhanced odds deals any money you win over the usual odds may be paid as bonus money as opposed to being credited to your account instantly. Check the site’s T&Cs to ascertain what you are likely to be getting back.

Key Football Betting Opportunities

Football is the only truly global sport. The global governing body of football, FIFA has 211 national association members. Compare this to cricket (ICC – 108 members) or rugby union (World Rugby – 113 members). This means that there is always plenty to bet on when it comes to football, no matter the time of year!

So, what are the most popular competitions for football betting? Read below if you want an answer to that question.

English Premier League

Many people claim that the English Premier League (or the EPL for short) is the biggest and best football league in the world. It does have some of the best players, and in teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, it does have some of the biggest teams in the world too. The EPL was created in 1992, replacing the Football League First Division as the top tier of English Football. Manchester United have won the EPL the most with 13, although rivals Manchester City have won it the last four seasons.

Other Domestic Leagues

The Football League is the second tier of English football, consisting of three tiered divisions, the Championship, League One and League Two. Beneath league football, the top division is the National League, beneath which sit the National League North and National League South. Football in Scotland is run by the Scottish Professional Football League and consists of a four-tiered league – the Premiership, the Championship, League One and League Two.

FIFA World Cup

The world’s only truly global top-tier nations’ football competition, the FIFA World Cup was first competed for in 1930. It has since been competed for every four years, aside from in 1942 and 1946. Brazil, with five titles, are the most successful World Cup competitor, and they are the only nation to have played in every World Cup. The current holders (2022) are Argentina. The next FIFA World Cup (2026) will be held jointly in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

UEFA European Championship

The leading international football competition for members of UEFA, the governing body of European football. The competition was founded in 1958 and won two years later by the Soviet Union. 1980 was the first year the entire tournament was held in a single country (previously it had just been the semi-finals and finals onwards). In 2024 Spain won the tournament for a record fourth time.

UEFA Champions League

Founded in 1955 as the European Cup, this European competition used to be for the league champions only of qualifying UEFA leagues, but was expanded into the Champions League in 1992 to include high-placing teams too. The first European Cup was won by Real Madrid, as was the most recent. Real Madrid have won Europe’s top competition a record 15 times, six when it was the European Cup, and nine as the UCL

UEFA Europa League

The Europa League is the second-tier competition for the domestic club sides of UEFA member nations. It was formed as the UEFA Cup in 1971 to replace the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, which was itself created in 1955. Teams that finish high in their domestic leagues but not high enough to qualify for the UEFA Champions League may qualify for the Europa League. Spanish side Sevilla has won the UEFA Cup/Europa League a record seven times. The current holders are the Italian side Atalanta.

Copa America

The Copa America is the premier international tournament for national teams from CONMEBOL (South America) and CONCACAF (North & Central America). The national sides of Japan and Qatar have also competed. The competition was first held in 1916 and has been run on a haphazard basis, timings-wise, ever since. The Copa America has been run every four years since 2016, although there was a bonus competition in 2019 and the 2020 version was delayed until 2021 because of COVID. In 2024, Argentina won the title for a record 16th time.

In-Play Football Betting and Live Streaming

Football is ideal for in-play betting, and virtually all UK betting sites accept in-play football bets. In-play betting simply means you can bet on any aspect of a match after the match has started. You can also bet on aspects of the winner of the next corner, or the next player to receive a yellow card or provide an assist. Look out for cash-out too, which is the ability to cash out a bet (either winning or losing) before the market for the event you’ve bet on has closed.

Live streaming of football is common at sites that have live betting. Competitions run by UEFA, the FA and the Football League will not be available for live streaming as they have deals with broadcasters such as Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon. You should still be able to watch some football live-streamed at sports betting sites though, with the Bundesliga (German) and even the Chinese Super League being popular choices.

Football Betting Sites on Mobile Devices

All UK betting sites are available on mobile devices, just as all websites are. You can view any UK football betting site on your mobile device by using your preferred mobile browser. The site will recognise you are viewing it on a smaller screen than a PC or laptop and adjust itself accordingly.

However, with the majority of UK betting sites, you get a second option – the ability to download a bespoke app for each specific site. In reality, these are browsers too – except that when you open them you go straight to the site’s home page and you cannot navigate to other sites!

No matter your preference, you can do everything via the mobile site/app that you can via a browser – just with a touch more convenience.

Football Tips to Improve Your Chances

Football is not a game of chance, like roulette. You can significantly sway your chances of a winning bet in your direction if you know what you are doing. Here is a trio of potentially successful football betting tips that should get you started.

Go Beyond the ‘1X2’ Back at a Betting Site, Lay at an Exchange Value (And How to Find It)

Most football fans when they bet choose simple bets – which side is going to win. They may even get a little adventurous and back the game to end level! But there is plenty more to bet on than ‘1X2’. Is a goal-shy team up against a side with a tight defence? Then bet on ‘BTTS No’ or ‘Draw No Bet’ to eradicate the chances of losing your bet because of a 0-0 draw. Tight defences and goal-shy attacks may also see you think about betting on ‘Under 2.5 Goals’, or leaky defences against rampant attackers may see you consider betting on ‘Over 2.5 Goals’. The trick is to be adventurous with your betting when some bets are better than just betting to win.

There are plenty of football fans who use this strategy. If all outcomes of a match are above Evens, then backing at a betting site and laying (betting against) at an Exchange is a key tactic. Your ‘stake’ at the betting exchange should be enough to cover your stake at the betting site. Because of the way this works, you will not lose your whole stake. Admittedly, you will not win as much if you bet at the betting site alone and your bet wins, but then again you won’t lose as much if your bet does not win.

Value betting is the way most successful bettors make money. It’s the tactic of finding odds that do not match the chances of a specific outcome. Say you think a football team has a 60 per cent chance of winning a football match – this equates to odds of 1.67 or 4/6. Say you find a betting site offering more beneficial odds, say 1.83 or 5/6. This makes it a value bet and one you should definitely consider. Finding value bets though can be hard work, so don’t think you can spend five minutes a day looking for them. It is though the best way of being consistently successful (moderately) with your betting.

Where to Find the Best Football Betting Odds

All football betting sites keep a keen eye on all other football betting sites to make sure their odds are competitive. If you want to find the sites with the best odds, then it’s perhaps best to stick to the biggest sites, as they can afford to offer the most generous odds. Also look out for sites that pay out bets early as that very slightly increases the generosity of their odds, as does sites with ongoing bonuses for regular customers.

Here now at the latest odds (as of 16:30, 11/09/24) offered by bet365 for the 2024-25 EPL league title.

Team Odds Team Odds
Manchester City 11/10 Arsenal 2/1
